Big Bear CA, January 31st, 2016 – Our current winter storm is now underway and the National Weather Service predicts rain with snow today likely before 10am, then just snow. Chance of precipitation is 100% and new snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches is possible during the day, as well as some thunder. As we move into Sunday night an additional 3 to 5 inches of snow is possible. Along with very heavy winds with gusts as high as 55 mph.
As the snow continues to fall the roads will become more of a challenge to drive on. The best thing you can do is stay home during the storm, and keep all vehicles off of the city streets so snow plows can clear the roads as efficiently as possible. If you must travel please check current road conditions and chain restrictions at kbhr933.com and know before you go, and always remember East is Least when leaving the Big Bear Valley. This would be Hwy 38 towards Redlands or Hwy 18 towards Lucerne Valley.
Our last storm brought heavy snow of over 2ft and high winds which caused falling trees, branches and power outages. This storm we can be better prepared if any of these things should happen again. If you see a down power line or tree please do not try to touch or move it yourself. Call 911 immediately for help.
