Big Bear Lake, CA, October 15, 2013 – The City of Big Bear Lake has proclaimed Saturday, October 19th as “Sparkle Day” to promote cancer awareness. The public is invited on that day to a gathering of community leaders and cancer survivors for a brief program consisting of a minister, speakers and live music, starting at 11:30 A.M. at Copper Q. Representatives from the hospital will provide cancer screening information and materials. It will also be a time of remembrance for those who lost their battles with cancer. Following the program, everyone is invited to join the Sparkle Brigade walk through the Big Bear Lake Village.
Although construction continues in the Village, convenient parking is available at the Knickerbocker Road lot opposite Copper Q.
Campaign coordinator Jan Pflaum developed the Sparkle Day campaign with Copper Q’s Linda Ricchiuti, Bear Valley Community Hospital CEO Ray Hino and the Bear Valley Community Healthcare Foundation. Sponsoring businesses and supportive individuals are referred to as Sparkle Boosters.
Sparkle T-shirts and caps are available at the Copper Q. Those who purchase a ‘Don’t let cancer dull your sparkle’ T-shirt for $20 or more become a Pink Sponsor. A portion of donations and merchandise revenues will be distributed to the Mammogram Program at the Bear Valley Hospital and the American Cancer Society.
