Big Bear, CA – The City of Big Bear Lake is supporting DOVES with a proclamation declaring October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Nearly 1 out of every 4 U.S. women, and 1 out of every 9 U.S. men are the victims of severe intimate partner violence, according to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
DOVES has several ways the public can get involved and show their support as well. October 19th is Purple Thursday. You can participate in Purple Thursday by wearing or displaying purple to raise awareness about domestic violence and sharing a photo using the hashtag #PurpleThursday to your social media accounts. This national campaign was created as a way to take a stand against domestic violence and express solidarity with survivors of domestic violence and their families.
