Update Big Bear, CA, August 18, 2016 – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reopened southbound Interstate 15 (I–15) through the Cajon Pass this morning at 10:45 a.m. The #1 lane will remain closed from Oak Hill Road to Kenwood Avenue for Caltrans crews. All ramps will remain closed at Kenwood Avenue, Cleghorn Road, SR 138 and Oak Hill Road
Big Bear, CA, August 18, 2016 – Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol re-opened the Northbound I-15 through the Cajon Pass last evening at approximately 10:15 p.m. All ramps will remain closed at Kenwood Avenue, Cleghorn Road, SR 138 and Oak Hill Rd. Work will continue on the Southbound I-15 to complete guardrail and other repairs. Southbound I-15 will remain closed until further notice. All other roads previously closed remain closed. One of the designated detours is the 18 from Lucerne through Big Bear and down the front grade via the 330. Expect delays and periods of heavy traffic.
The Bluecut fire is currently 31,689 acres with 4% containment. There are 1584 personnel on scene with 178 engines, 26 crews, 10 air tankers, 2 Very Large Air Tankers, and 17 Helicopters, including night flying helicopters. Additional firefighters and equipment have been ordered and will be responding directly to the fire.
There is still a threat to public safety, rail traffic and structures in the Cajon Pass, Lytle Creek, Wrightwood, Oak Hills, and surrounding areas. Please follow the evacuation instructions, as this is a very unpredictable and quickly moving wildfire. An estimated 34,500 homes and 82,640 people have been affected by the evacuations.
