Fawnskin, CA — A structure fire in Fawnskin last night resulted in the closure of the North Shore portion of Highway 38 for several hours, though the roadway was reopened in the 6am hour. Just before 1am this morning (Wednesday, April 7), Fawnskin Station #49 of the San Bernardino County Fire Department received a call, alerting them to a structure fire, on the hillside just above the lake and the highway, just west of Windy Point. The government lease cabin was unoccupied, and an official at the Fawnskin firehouse tells KBHR that the part-time residents had been remodeling the cabin for the last couple years, though were not here during the fire. Fawnskin firefighters, who received assistance from both Big Bear City and Big Bear Lake Fire Departments, returned from the incident in the 8am hour this morning, though report that the structure did burn to the ground. There are no financial damage estimates yet determined, though the blaze is being investigated by both the San Bernardino County Fire Department and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
