July 21, 2014, Big Bear Lake, CA – The Gallery in the Village is brimming with talent, with this month’s Featured Artist George Gootson–a respected local landscape painter–and Guest Artist Elizabeth Szymczak on display through August 13. The public is invited to a free reception to meet them and discuss their work on Saturday, July 26th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, or to view their installations any time during normal business hours.
As both a dancer and an artist, Szymczak combines her expertise in both disciplines to produce dramatic, hyper-realistic images with symbolic undertones. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Art Education with a minor in Dance from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and an MFA in Representational Drawing and Painting from the Academy of Art University. She later studied plein air landscape painting in Italy and added video and live painting to her repertoire.
Originally from Chicago but now based in Los Angeles, Szymczak teaches AP Art History at Granada Hills Public Charter High School, and is currently showing her work in L.A. and Laguna Beach.
The Gallery’s “4th Saturday” receptions include wine, hors d’oeuvres and live music. The Gallery is located at 40750 Village Drive in Big Bear Lake, and is operated by The Arts Council of Big Bear Valley.
