Fawnskin, CA, April 21, 2013 – Forest Service fire information officer Bob Poole reports that the Fawnskin Fire is 20% contained. A hoseline is around the entire blaze, and at least a dozen engines are on scene as air assault continues.
The fire started at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday just north of Forest Service Road 2N71, between 3N12 and Polique Canyon Road (2N09). The cause is under investigation.
Saturday night the fire was moving to the northeast but was fairly stationary as of Sunday morning. The rate of spread has virtually stopped for the time being, thanks to low winds and fire crews’ removal of fuels alongthe perimeter. However, humidity will drop to near 10% later today, so more activity in the interior of the fire is likely as dry fuels are consumed. Residents may see heavier smoke and even flames at that time.
