In terms of our roads, motorists can again expect additional delays at the Big Bear Dam this afternoon, as blasting will be taking place from 1 to 3pm today (Tuesday), and again on Wednesday and Thursday. Also, as of yesterday, CalTrans began a $630,000 construction repair project on Highway 18/Big Bear Boulevard; the project covers about 10 miles of roadway, extending from the Boulder Bay area east to Pineview Drive in Big Bear City. Traffic impacts are expected to be minimal during road work this month (though there were reports of slow-going through Big Bear City this morning); weekday flagging can be expected from 8am to 3pm. In other road news, just before noon there was a report of a traffic collision involving a truck and a bear on Highway 38 near Hart Bar. Per preliminary reports from the California Highway Patrol, the bear left the roadway and the California Department of Fish and Game was called to investigate.
Update: We have since received news that the brown bear is deceased; the truck and driver in the incident are fine.
