After 80 years or more on Juniper Point on Big Bear Lake’s North Shore, the historic cabin will tonight be making the move to the Historical Museum off Greenway in Big Bear City. The 1920s cabin, which once served as a post office and general store, has been cleared out by the Big Bear Valley Historical Society this week, thanks to the help or 20 of so volunteers. A professional moving service will be transporting the cabin along Highway 38, and this is scheduled to take place at 3am tonight. Historical Society President Gloria Meade tells KBHR that the movers have worked out the logistics with CalTrans. The move will be done slowly and, in fact, there will be someone atop the cabin to raise the wires that overhang the road as this little piece of Big Bear history makes its way from Juniper Point to Big Bear City. Once in place at the Historical Museum, the cabin will be used to house the gift shop.
Update: The move did not happen as scheduled, due to highway logistics, per Gloria Meade.
