Big Bear Lake, CA, March 31, 2013 – The San Bernardino National Forest has a new deputy Forest Supervisor. John Exline holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology and a Master’s Degree in Forest Resource Management. He began his Forest Service career in 1981 working in timber management at the Sequoia National Forest, where he later served as a District Ranger for 11 years. He has also worked as a firefighter for the Redding Hotshot Crew and as acting Forest Supervisor for the Lassen and Sierra National Forests.
In San Bernardino, Exline fills the vacancy left by retiring Deputy Supervisor Thomas Gillett.
Forest Supervisor Jody Noiron said, “John’s extensive 32-year career in the Forest Service and his experience in California make him a great addition to the San Bernardino National Forest. He has significant experience in forestry, fire, and all Forest Service programs and has a proven track record working with communities in California.”
The San Bernardino National Forest is comprised of three Ranger Districts spanning 676,666 acres in San Bernardino and Riverside counties. From the desert floor to the pristine mountain peaks, the San Bernardino National Forest offers natural environments, spectacular scenery, developed campgrounds and picnic areas, numerous recreational opportunities, and the solitude of quiet wilderness and open space for the over 24 million residents of Southern California and those visiting the area. The forest environment also provides habitat for numerous plants and animals and is crucial in sustaining drinking water, air, and soil quality.
