Bear Valley Unified’s music students–in the Elementary Orchestra program, Steven G. Miahylo Chamber Strings and Concert Orchestra–participated in last Friday’s invitation-only Forum Music Festival at CalState Fullerton, and did our community proud. Under the direction of Sharon Rizzo, the BVUSD Elementary Orchestra received the top score of a Gold Rating, based on the national standard. In the competition portion of the Forum Music Festival, the Steven G. Mihaylo Concert Orchestra, comprised of both BBMS and elementary students, placed second overall in the Middle School Orchestra Division. According to Rizzo, “The top and most awesome award for the day came from the Steven G. Mihaylo Chamber Strings, who won first place for the High School Orchestra Division. What makes this even more incredible is that this small ensemble is comprised of two high school students and nine middle school students!” Congratulations to the 46 BVUSD students who brought these prestigious awards home to the Big Bear Valley.
