Big Bear High School students and attendees at the Lighthouse Project’s Community Summit have been treated to the wit and wisdom of author Tyler Durman and, come May 1st, both Big Bear Middle School students and all Bear Valley parents will have the opportunity to hear him speak. Next Friday, Durman will address students at a BBMS assembly and that evening at 6:30pm, the parent-support network Common Ground will host a special opportunity for parents, as Durman, author of “Bite-Sized Wisdom for Parents (with kids ages two through twenty),” presents “Yikes, I Have a Teenager in My House!” This will be Durman’s fifth trip to Big Bear from his home base in Hawaii and, as he tells KBHR, “I feel so fortunate, because this is just a time when everyone needs good news. So many parents I meet feel that their home is chaos and fear the teen years, and I love being able to share with them.” Durman explains that, as both a father of two college-age sons and a child-focused public speaker for over 20 years, “I have the really rare privilege of having spoken to nearly six million teens, and I’ve been invited behind the scenes to see a world parents rarely see.” At the Common Ground-sponsored presentation at Northwoods in the Village next Friday, Durman will share his parenting expertise and insight into teens, in a program that will be followed by a Q&A session. Says Durman, “I love being able to share with parents, helping them and showing them how to view their role because, culturally, there’s been a huge shift. I’m thrilled to help set them free to be parents, while deepening their intimacy with their kids, even in the teenage years.” Durman’s May 1st presentation will teach parents, in his words, “How to think, because we make our parenting choices based on that, and then I’m going to get very practical on what we can do in real time.” To be included in this rare opportunity, the Lighthouse Project-affiliated Common Ground group asks that you call to reserve your space for “Yikes, I Have a Teenager in My House!” by calling 801-1766; a donation of $10 is suggested.
