Big Bear, CA, March 4, 2014 – With Spring approaching, thoughts are turning to gardening and planting. 2013 was the driest year on record in California and aside from our recent storm, 2014 is shaping up to be another very dry year. Native and drought tolerant plants are definitely a wise choice for your garden. They may cost slightly more up front than other plants, but they’re heartier and require less water, and they’ll come back year after year.
2014 marks the 12th year for the annual Xeriscape Garden Tour, to be held on July 19th. Experts will be on hand at each of the homes on the tour to explain the ins and outs of creating a beautiful landscape and conserving water at the same time. To get some ideas on what to plant in your Xeriscape garden, go to: sierraclubbigbeargroup.org to download pictures of gardens from past tours.
