Big Bear Valley, CA — We have more storms coming our way and, as of this morning, the National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for our area here in the San Bernardino mountains and surrounding desert communities, as well as the whole of Southern California. With this Hazardous Weather Outlook, also comes Winter Storm Warnings, Wind Advisories, and a Flash Flood Watch, particularly for those in or below recent burn areas. This first storm of the week brought us roughly two inches of snow and some rain here in the Valley—and as much as six to seven inches atop the resorts. Given this, the City of Big Bear Lake has issued Snow Conditions, so no parking on city streets to allow for ongoing snow removal. And those roads are icy out there and, to that end, R2 chain requirements do remain in place for all roads to from and within the Big Bear Valley. R2 means that you must have chains on the drive wheels of your vehicle, unless in a four-wheel drive with snow tires on all four wheels and carrying chains. If putting on chains, please be sure you are safely out of the roadway before doing so.
Also, Bear Valley Unified schools are in session today [January 19], however there will be an early out for students of Big Bear Middle School and Big Bear High School; both schools will release students 15 minutes early to allow bus drivers to arrive at the elementary schools on time.
