Big Bear Valley, CA — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the San Bernardino mountains, upgraded from a Winter Storm Watch, and this will be in effect from 4pm Friday through Saturday night. Today’s Winter Storm Warning for the Big Bear Valley is indicative of significant snowfall, with snow levels possibly dropping to the 4,000 ft. elevation (we’re at 6,750) by tomorrow, February 6; dense fog and winds, including gusts up to 50 miles per hour tonight, are also expected during this storm event. In the meantime, motorists are reminded that it is the law to carry chains when traveling in the mountains during the winter months though, as of Friday morning, chains are not required on vehicles. Snow Conditions do remain in effect for the Big Bear Valley, so no parking on city streets to allow for ongoing snowplow operations; vehicles blocking snowplows may be cited and towed.
