Water Rescue On Big Bear Lake

Big Bear Lake, CA, May 30, 2012, noon – Big Bear Municipal Water District employees at the West Public Launch Ramp got a report of an overturned canoe with four 29 Palms residents in the water just west of the ramp on Sunday morning, May 27. Ramp attendants quickly notified Lake Patrol dispatch and ran to the shore to assist the boaters. Two children, ages 6 and 13 were wearing Personal Floatation Devices (PFD’s), but the two adults who were not wearing PFD’s were struggling to stay afloat due to high winds and low  water temperatures. When units from the Big Bear Lake Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Big Bear Municipal Water District Lake Patrol arrived, the victims were immediately pulled from the water and taken to the launch ramp office. Due to the quick action taken by Big Bear Municipal Water District Ramp attendants and the rapid response of Lake Patrol Officers and Coast Guard Auxiliary members, the victims were able to quickly recover from the ordeal without serious injury or loss of life.
