Big Bear, Ca, March 30, 2016 – On March 24, 2016, representatives of the South Coast Air Quality Management District, Clean Fuel Connection, Inc., the City of Big Bear Lake, Bear Valley Electric Service, and the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce met to discuss the proposed placement of two DC fast chargers and several level two slow chargers in and around the Village area of Big Bear Lake. The Bartlett Parking Lot located at the center of the Village and the Civic Center would be the most likely locations for the two fast chargers. According to Todd Warden of the SCAQMD, there is also funding available for up to 10 of the level two slow charging stations.
Lake Arrowhead already operates two Tesla charging stations and these new proposed stations would allow access to Big Bear Valley for tourists who operate electric vehicles who may not have been able to travel to the area previously.
Big Bear Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Pamela Scannell, who has been advocating for electric car charging stations for more than two years, is quoted as saying, “The stations would be such a good fit given that Big Bear Valley is a mountain environment attracting ecotourism and individuals interested in conserving our planet.”
