Big Bear Lake, CA, February 24, 2013 – The U.S. Adaptive Recreation Center at Bear Mountain Resort provides adapted activities to physically and cognitively challenged children and adults. Part of the nonprofit organization’s costs – including subsidizing lessons, purchasing equipment and training 200 volunteers and staff members – are met by raising funds in the annual Ski-A-Thon.
The 2013 Ski-A-Thon is happening March 2 at Bear Mountain, and skiers and snowboarders are encouraged to join in by raising at least $500 per team or $150 per individual. There are prizes for the most donations raised, and all participants get a full-day lift ticket (with line cutting privileges), goodie bag, Ski-Athon T-shirt, lunch and an aprés-ski party with refreshments, hors-d’oeuvres, raffle tickets, an auction and entertainment. Sponsors can count on a tax deduction.
USARC is the only program of its kind in the region, providing ski and snowboard lessons to people with spinal cord injuries, visual impairments, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, amputations, cognitive disabilities, cerebral palsy, brain injuries and many others.
