Big Bear Lake, CA, February 19, 2014 – For the past 30 years, volunteers have come together to put on the annual Redlands Bicycle Classic, hosting thousands of people from around the world. Now, the event committee is ushering in a new era. For the second year, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians will act as Presenting Sponsor for the annual competition, expanding the festivities in 2014 with a new race stage in Highland, a school outreach program to promote healthy lifestyles and a Saturday evening family concert.
Redlands Bicycle Classic President Bob Peppler said, “It is an honor to have a presenting sponsor with a history that is deeply rooted in the region, and one who shares the vision of promoting a healthy lifestyle, especially for our youth. We can influence kids with a positive message of fitness and well-being.”
The five days of competition, scheduled for April 2 – 6, will include for the second year a 7.8 mile time trial in the City of Big Bear Lake on Thursday, featuring an out-and-back route on the north side of the Big Bear lake with a turnaround in Fawnskin.
The Classic will be the first race on the 2014 USA Cycling National Racing Calendar.
