Big Bear, Ca, March 9, 2011, 12:00pm – The Big Bear Valley Trails Foundation’s fundraiser Pizza and Pizzaz was a packed house at Maggios Restaurant on Tuesday March 8th. With every seat filled, and all walkways filled with people, the Trails Foundation put on a great show. The big announcement for the evening is that the US Forest Service has accepted the Skyline Trail as a proposal, which is the first big step in the process of starting work on the proposed 17 mile multi use trail. There are still many steps that need to take place before trail work will commence. The Trails Foundation has proposed that this multi-use trail will span from the Dam Keepers House, near the Dam at the west end of the valley, will parallel fire access road 2N10 for a majority of the trail, and will end at the east end of the valley at Hatchery Road. According to the Trails Foundation, the Skyline Trail would provide a safer non motorized alternative to fire access road 2N10, in which portions of that road have recently been paved, resulting in higher speeds on the road and increased traffic, creating a safety issue for cyclists and equestrians.
