Crestline, CA – Southern California has been hit by several major winter storms in the past month, and the San Bernardino mountain areas have experienced significant precipitation and snow events as a result. These storms produced heavy rock flows that damaged an existing rock barrier on State Route 18. Caltrans is scheduled to begin emergency repairs to the slope drape and rock fence on SR-18 located 0.7 miles east of the SR-18/SR-138 separation near Crestline.
The work begins on Monday, February 27, with shoulder closures only. Work hours will be Monday – Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. A complete closure of SR-18 between Crest Forest Drive in Crestline and the SR-138 cut-off will occur for up to five days from Thursday, March 2 to Thursday, March 9 in order to install a new Cable Net rock barrier. Detours will be posted at that time.
The project is scheduled to be completed in April, 2017. All work is contingent upon the weather. Caltrans asks motorists for their patience and cooperation as they work to repair storm damages.
