Big Bear, CA, May 30, 2012, 3:00pm – The Big Bear Valley Trails Foundation is celebrating the kickoff of construction of the Skyline Trail, the first new trail in Big Bear Lake in almost 2 decades. The event is Saturday, June 2nd, which appropriately enough, is National Trails Day. The Skyline Trail is a collaboration of the Trails Foundation, the San Bernardino National Forest and the International Mountain Biking Association and will be a 15-mile world-class multi-use single track that will accommodate year round non-motorized uses such as cycling, horseback riding, hiking and snowshoeing planned along the top of the San Bernardino Mountains on National Forest land between the Big Bear and Santa Ana River Valleys offering stunning panoramic views of the area. The trail celebration, titled “Kick and Flick”, will be held at Northwoods Resort in the Village, Saturday, June 2nd from 6:00 to 9:00pm and will include complimentary food, refreshments, and a no-host bar. The public is invited to this free event to meet the diverse and committed trail advocates behind the project and learn more about this unique collaborative effort. It will also be the premiere of the documentary “Pedal-Driven”, a bike-umentary featuring cyclists, rogue trail builders, public land managers and trail advocates who tell the story of long-standing confrontations between mountain bikers and federal land management agencies over citizens’ rights and access to public lands. According to Jamie Howell, the film’s writer and director, the highest calling of a documentary film is to help foster change. Join the advocates of change at the Skyline Trail celebration, Saturday, June 2nd at Northwoods Resort beginning at 6pm.
