Big Bear, CA, November 18, 2016 – Snowmaking has begun! On Wednesday, November 16, the snow guns at Bear Mountain Resorts fired up to take advantage of several days of cold weather. The conditions, dry and cold, are exactly what the resorts need to get a good start on their base. Bear Mountain is focusing their efforts on Chairs 7 and 9 while Snow Summit is keeping the guns trained on Chairs 2 and 4.
Snow Play in Big Bear City has also been able to take advantage of our cold temps and started blowing snow last Friday and was able to open on Saturday. There is a storm that may brush our area on Monday and could bring some natural snow to resort level, but could also produce rain. Locals and visitors alike are hoping for a Thanksgiving weekend opening, but at this point it’s all up to Mother Nature.
With talk of snow in the forecast, now is a good time to check that your vehicle is ready for the winter. Check your tires, your coolant, the condition of your windshield wipers, and throw a blanket and some snacks and water in your car just in case.
