Big Bear, Ca, September 16, 2010, 8:00am – The 11th Annual Big Bear Lake Shoreline Cleanup will be on Saturday September 25th. Business, church groups, and civic organizations are encouraged to volunteer as a group, and will be assigned to specific areas along the shoreline. Individuals can volunteer also, by meeting at Juniper Point on the 25th. All volunteers are encouraged to bring their own bucket, reusable bag, and gloves, however if you do not have the needed items, they will be supplied for you. Two local organizations have volunteered thus far, and they are Natural Highs, a group of students from Baldwin Lane Elementary and Big Bear High School, and Teenagers Against Animal Cruelty. A group of students from Ray Wiltsey Middle School in Ontario have been volunteering at the Shoreline Cleanup for the past 9 years, and will return this year to help again. Alan Sharp, organizer of the shoreline cleanup told KBHR “in the past 10 years we have had 1,945 volunteers, and have collected 16,874 pounds of trash.” Sharp also told KBHR that the shoreline cleanup is a California wide movement, with over 80,000 volunteers cleaning up California beaches, bays, rivers, creeks, parks, roadsides and highways. The shoreline cleanup will take place from 9:00am- 12:00pm on Saturday September 25th. Groups can call Sharp at 866-3218 to be assigned a spot of shoreline, and individual volunteers can report to Juniper Point. Help clean up our shoreline, the lake, trees, and wildlife need it.
