Fawnskin, CA, September 19, 2011, 8:00am – Saturday, September 24th is “National Public Lands Day” and it’s also a “Free Day” for visitors to the San Bernardino National Forest. Normally an Adventure Pass is required for day use activities and camping at many recreational facilities in the Forest. This weekend’s “Free Day” applies to all Adventure Pass areas except where other fees such as those in campgrounds and group sites will still be required. The annual National Public Lands Day coordinated by the National Environmental Education Foundation with the support of the Forest Service and other federal agencies, focuses on educating the public about the importance of natural resources and the need for shared stewardship on the land. San Bernardino National Forest officials hope that visitors will take advantage of the “Free Day” this Saturday and enjoy the beauty of the forest. For more information about the “Free Day” and the recreation fee program, call the Big Bear Discovery Center at 382-2790.
