Big Bear, CA, October 14, 2014 – On Wednesday October 15, Caltrans will be installing a 100 ft. long pedestrian and horse bridge across State Highway 38. The bridge is being installed to safely connect the two halves of Camp Tahquitz, which is bisected by Highway 38, and generates over 20,000 pedestrian crossings per year.
Highway 38 will be closed beginning at 8:30 am and reopened by 3:30 pm. There will be a detour available around the installation site on Jenks Lake Road, however SR 18 (the front grade) will be completely open while the bridge installation takes place.
On Thursday October 16, the Caltrans schedule goes back to the way it was, with SR 18 closed 8:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Thursday and flagging with one-way traffic on Highway 38.
