Big Bear, Ca, August 17, 2011, 9:40am –Yesterday at approximately 2:00pm a motorist on Highway 38 reported a fire on the south side of Highway 38 near Mountain Home Village, which prompted a full wild land response from the US Forest Service and local agencies. According to the Forest Service, firefighters aggressively fought the fire, stopping it before it could spread into the adjacent Mountain Home Village neighborhood. The quick response kept fire officials from closing the highway or evacuating nearby residents. The Heaps Peak Helitack Helicopter 534 circled overhead and checked along the highway for additional spot fires as a precautionary tactic. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
