Big Bear, CA, August 7th, 2016 – The Pilot Fire started at about 12:10 pm on Sunday August 7 near the Miller Canyon OHV area off of Highway 138. The fire is currently 1,000 with no containment.
HWY 173 Closed between SR-138 and Arrowhead Lake Road, Hwy 138 closed from Old Mill Road to 173.
There are currently 350 firefighters assigned to this fire, including 30 engines, 6 crews, 5 dozers, 8 helicopters, 7 air tankers, including the VLAT assigned. Additional firefighters have been ordered and will be responding directly to the fire.
As of 5pm August 7th there is no immediate threat to the Big Bear Valley. As winds change throughout the night be prepared for drift smoke and a smell of smoke throughout the Valley.
