Pacific Crest Trail Presentation at DC Tonight; Forest Restoration Planting on Saturday

Tonight (June 18) is being billed as Nature Night at the Big Bear Discovery Center, and will include a free presentation on the Pacific Crest Trail by local photographer Scott Cordner. The 7pm offering will feature Cordner’s slide show, which covers the beautiful scenery of his hiking trip along the 2,600 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, from Mexico to Canada. The next free offering through the Discovery Center will be a Greenthumbs Forest Planting Day, scheduled for 9am to 3pm on Saturday, June 20. Volunteers need not have any experience to participate in the Big Bear Ranger Station’s Native Plant Nursery and Restoration Program, though are asked to bring hat, sunscreen, gloves and a sack lunch. Volunteers are asked to call ahead, to 909/382-2827, before joining the planting team at the Big Bear Ranger Station flagpole at 9am Saturday morning; the Big Bear Ranger Station in located on Big Bear Lake’s North Shore, across from the Juniper Point recreation area and just east of the Big Bear Discovery Center.
