Big Bear, Ca, February 16, 2011, 8:00am – Friends and family of long time Big Bear Local and environmental activist Jim Otterstrom, are celebrating his life on Sunday, February 20th. Jim passed under the night sky in Utah on January 22, 2011. To celebrate Jim’s life, the community of Big Bear Lake is joining together for a night of words and music, entitled Otter-Strum, at Wyatt’s inside the Big Bear Lake Convention Center at 4:00pm. A wide variety of Jim’s musician friends are coming together to throw him a grand celebration. Roach and Byl Carruthers who front the Southern California band Café R&B, along with an extensive line-up of musicians will be in attendance for the Otter-Strum to ensure the blues and other genres are represented. Previewing this special night of music, KBHR’s Friday Night Blues on the Bear with Rick Bates will spotlight the celebration. On Friday, February 18 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, host Rick Bates and Peggy Otterstrom will present two hours of Jim’s favorite recordings. The radio program will feature the music of Bob Dylan, John Prine, Neil Young, Blind Willie Johnson, John Lee Hooker and much more. There is no charge for admittance to the OtterSTRUM, and in lieu of flowers, donations will be appreciated to help the family defer the costs related to the loss of their patriarch.
