San Bernardino County, CA, October 1, 2013 – If you know a past or present member of the armed forces who is known for distinguished service, community involvement, or advocacy for veterans’ causes, consider recommending her or him for recognition. A Veterans Recognition Ceremony called “Heroes of the 8th” has been scheduled for November 8, to honor residents of California’s 8th congressional district who currently serve or have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

District Representative Paul Cook (R-Yucca Valley) will host the event. A member of the House Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, and Veterans’ Affairs Committees, Cook served as an infantry officer and retired after 26 years as a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps. During his time in combat, he was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.
