Big Bear, Ca, June 3, 2011, 9:00am – This Saturday is National Trails Day and the American Hiking Society, along with the National Forest Association, will be celebrating at the National Children’s Forest in Running Springs. According to Kathy Clapsaddle with the National Forest Association, the “focus will be to honor our trails and provide volunteers an opportunity to help restore the very popular Interpretive Loop at Children’s Forest.” At the Forest Festival celebration there will be information and booths from the Forest Explorer, County Chipper Crews, live snake demonstrations, local fire departments, and live animal demonstrations with the Moonridge Zoo. There will also be fly fishing, native plant sale, a guided hike of the Exploration Trail, soil filtration demo, a tour of the Children’s Forest Visitor Information Center and green house, finger printing with Citizen’s Patrol, and you can learn more about volunteer opportunities with the National Forest Association. The Forest Festival will take place from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
