Fawnskin, CA, December 10, 2013 – The U.S. Forest Service has named the Southern California Mountains Foundation (SCMF) their “Partner of the Year” for achieving exceptional results in inspiring more visitors to connect, recreate responsibly and serve their public lands.
As Pacific Southwest Regional Forester Randy Moore put it, “Only with participation from our partners and the public can we truly manage and protect our invaluable forest resources.”
Foundation Executive Director Sarah Miggins, said, “I am so honored to receive this award on behalf of our Board of Directors, staff and some of the hardest working volunteers. Since our inception, we have embraced the principles of partnership with our Forest Service team and along with their consistent ambition; we have achieved what others might think impossible. Even in the worst of economies, we tend to seek out what is possible and strive for excellence,” Miggins added.
Miggins and a 13-person Board of Directors oversee the nonprofit’s conservation, environmental education and responsible recreation initiatives, which are executed by hundreds of volunteers.
The Forest Service honor is the latest in a year full of recognition for the SCMF; it was also named “Nonprofit of the Year” by the Big Bear Lake Chamber of Commerce; “Organization of the Year” by the California Invasive Plant Council, certified as the Urban Conservation Corps of the Inland Empire by the California Conservation Corp, and certified as a 21st Century Service Corps.
