Update: 7/7/2020 Investigators have determined the preliminary cause of the Mount R Fire to be related to target shooting and are releasing more information about the person or persons of interest they are hoping the public can help identify. In addition to a black Audi with a broken left taillight, the person or persons are suspected of using high-powered rifles, potentially with calibers of .30-06, .45-70, and/or .223. Anyone with information of a person or persons who shoots these caliber rifles and frequents City Creek Road (1N09), please call Forest Service Law Enforcement at 909-383-5651.
It is important to note that while starting a fire may be accidental, leaving the area is illegal, per 18 U.S. Code §?1856.
The 58-acre Mount R Fire began shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3, off City Creek Road, east of Highway 330, near the “R,” a hillside University of Redlands emblem visible from campus. It is currently 100% contained.
Original Post: San Bernardino National Forest officials are seeking help from the public in identifying a person or persons of interest seen leaving the Mount R Fire’s point of origin along City Creek Road, locally referred to as Forest Service Road number 1N09, as the incident began. The person or persons were seen in a black sedan Audi with a broken left taillight. The Mount R fire began on Friday, July 3rd shortly before 3pm off City Creek Road, east of Highway 330, near the “R,” a hillside University of Redlands emblem visible from campus.
