The Friends of the Moonridge Zoo have two events planned for coming weeks, the first of which is the 3rd annual Photography Contest this Saturday, May 16. Winning photographs from last year’s event are featured in the zoo’s calendar and those who participate this round will be eligible to have their animal pics in the next calendar. The entry fee, which includes park admission on Saturday, is $15 for adults and $10 for children; categories for the photo contest are varied, so even an amateur has a shot at having their photo included in the Moonridge Animal Park calendar. Photo contest hours are from 10am to 4pm Saturday, though registration opens at 8:30am, the same time that professional wildlife photographer Barbara Jordan will offer photography tips during a pre-contest tour of the park. Two weeks later, on Saturday the 24th (over Memorial Day weekend), the Friends of the Moonridge Zoo host the annual Bear Country Fair, which will include arts & crafts and games, including the opportunity to guess which of the zoo’s three bears will win the pie-eating contest. Gates open at 10am on the 24th for The Bear Country Fair at the Moonridge Zoo, with an opening ceremony featuring John Three Hawks at 10:30am.
