Big Bear, Ca, May 16, 2011, 12:00pm – The Momyer Fire, that started the morning of May 8th, is currently at 90% containment with full containment expected on May 17th. The fire, which burned near the Forest Falls area in very rocky steep terrain, has burned a total of 150 acres. According to the San Bernardino National Forest, firefighters and air tankers made “excellent progress improving, holding and performing mop-up procedures on containment lines throughout the fire perimeter.” 100% containment of the fire is expected to be reached tomorrow and, after containment, aircraft will patrol the fire area for at least one week to detect any areas of residual heat.
