This year’s 10 or so events in celebration of the 60th annual Old Miners’ Days will take place over three weekends in July and August. Some of the activities to look forward to include the Chili Cook-Off, Miss Clementine contest and the Country Fair the weekend of July 11 and 12; the Loggers Jubilee and Doo Dah Parade on July 18; and the Horseshoe Tournament and the grand Old Miners’ Day Parade in the first weekend in August. Before any of these events take off, though, the Old Miners’ Association will first host their annual fundraising Bowl-a-Thon, which is scheduled for Sunday evening, May 3. Teams who wish to participate can call the Bowling Barn at 878-BOWL to register for this annual event. In the meantime, the Old Miners’ Association will hold another planning meeting on Monday, April 6 at 5:30pm, at Boo Bear’s restaurant on Pine Knot Avenue. Says Association President Tony Sundvall, “Our 60th anniversary celebration is rapidly approaching, and we invite anyone who is interested to join us in our Valley’s longest running tradition. There is still a lot of work to do, and we have room for everyone who would like to participate.”
