The Man About Town events are well underway, in the Soroptimists’ fundraising campaign to eradicate teen violence in the Big Bear Valley. Man About Town candidates Ace Evers, Phil Hamilton and Paul Ortuno have each hosted an event, and these will continue through April 24, when the candidate who generates the most dollars will be crowned with the title of Man About Town on finale night at Big Bear High School. This event on the 24th will feature the Harlem Ambassadors—as well as Evers, Hamilton and Ortuno—in a basketball game in “Our House.” In the meantime, other activities are planned, including Dr. Evers’s main event scheduled for this Saturday, March 28 at the Bar at the Vintage. Saturday’s 6pm event is a Mardi Gras Casino Night; tickets, available at the door, are $40 each, which includes a New Orleans-style dinner and jazz band. On Friday, April 3, Hamilton follows up his sock hop event with a wine-tasting evening billed as Three Blind Wines and Just Desserts. Pre-sale tickets to this event are available by calling 585-3467. Candidate Ortuno will host a dollar taco night at Sonora Cantina on Monday, April 6, though it will be on Saturday, April 18 that team Ortuno hosts their main event, which will feature a gourmet dinner at Bear Mountain. Each dollar raised during the annual Man About Town campaign will benefit Big Bear’s youth; last year, Soroptimists raised enough money to purchase a bus for use by the Teen Center and the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District.
