Big Bear Lake, CA September 29, 2013 9:00 am – A major structure fire was reported Sunday morning around 7:00 am burning at the Riffenburgh Lumber property. Two structures near the rear of the property on the north end were fully engulfed in flames as the Big Bear Fire department arrived. Both structures could be considered a total loss. Other structures on the property were not affected including the main retail store building in the front, south end, of the property. Smoke was seen from most parts of the valley and inundated several sections of big Bear City east of Division Drive and the Riffenburgh property. Fire agencies from around the valley responded to this fire including a CSD backhoe as part of the mop up efforts. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is being investigated.
