If you haven’t yet done the chicken dance this season, tomorrow night is your opportunity to join your friends and neighbors on the dance floor, for Locals’ Night at the 39th annual Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest with Burgermeister Hans Bandows and family. On Friday, October 2, admission to Oktoberfest is just $3 for local adults, and free for children 12 and under, with all gate proceeds to benefit the Big Bear Valley Historical Society, and their efforts to move the caddyshack, dating back to the original golf course, to the Historical Museum (which is open this weekend, before closing for the winter season). Locals’ Night at the Oktoberfest, located at the Big Bear Lake Convention Center on Division, gets underway at 6pm, and will feature log sawing, stein holding, and Safe Slam beer drinking contests. Update: Locals’ Night raised $3,300 for the Big Bear Valley Historical Society; the group extends a thank you to all who attended and, per the BBVHS’s Gloria Meade, “a tremendous thank you to Monica and Anthony Marini, for hosting and donating the $3 entry fee. All the proceeds will go to the museum for the Building Expansion Fund, to help keep history alive in Big Bear.”
