Big Bear News – Big Bear, CA – Tuesday, September 10th UPDATE: 4:15pm, An Evacuation Order has now been put in place for a western section of the Big Bear Valley. A mandatory Evacuation Order has been issued from the Big Bear Dam to Wildrose Lane by the Big Bear Alpine Slide. The only route of travel is Highway 18 to Lucerne Valley. For the safety of residents and fire fighting personnel, please comply with the Evacuation Order which again is from the Big Bear Dam to the Big Bear Alpine Slide on the South Shore. All other areas of Big Bear remain under an Evacuation Warning. Mountain Transit is providing free transportation off the mountain tonight at 5pm, 6pm, 7pm and 8pm to the Victorville Transit Center and to the Evacuation Shelter at the County Fairgrounds located at 14800 7th Street in Victorville. Service departs from the Mountain Transit bus stop at 41939 Fox Farm Road in Big Bear Lake. Well-behaved animals are welcome to ride the bus during this emergency. While Big Bear remains under an Evacuation Warning, Mountain Transit is providing free transportation from Big Bear off the mountain to the Victorville Transit Center and to the Evacuation Shelter at the County Fairgrounds, located at 14800 7th Street in Victorville. Rides will leave the Mountain Transit bus stop at 41939 Fox Farm Road in Big Bear Lake at 12:30pm today, Tuesday, September 9th. The Line Fire remained active overnight increasing to 26,426 acres and now at 5% containment with 65,600 structures threatened although no structures or lives have been lost. This evening there will be a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms and stronger winds are predicted for today. An evacuation warning remains in place for Big Bear. Due to the ongoing conditions resulting from the Line Fire, Bear Valley Unified School District will be closing all schools for the remainder of this week. The US Forest Service has closed the San Bernardino National Forest and Big Bear Mountain Resort needs to suspend operations at Snow Summit, Snow Valley and the Bear Mountain Golf Course until further notice.
A total of 2098 fire fighting personnel are working the Line Fire. The State has called in the California National Guard for support to be staged at the Ontario National Guard Armory. Guard service members will be tasked with providing additional security to the evacuated areas providing support for County and municipal law enforcement agencies. Additionally, the National Guard will deploy Blackhawk helicopters and aircraft to assist in firefighting efforts.

Southern California Electric Service (SCE) may implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff, known as a PSPS, affecting Bear Valley Electric’s power supply. This PSPS period, if implemented, may begin sometime today, Tuesday, September 10 at 6:00 PM through Wednesday, September 11 at 6:00 AM. This safety precaution is to reduce wildfire risk due to high winds conditions.
Big Bear News – Big Bear, CA – Monday, September 9th UPDATE: 3:30pm An Evacuation Warning has been issued for the Big Bear Valley. Bear Valley Unified School District is cancelling all classes at all school sites for tomorrow, Tuesday, September 10th due to poor air quality and road closures.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff in conversation with the State OES Law Enforcement Branch along with the Governor proactively activated the National Guard to be staged at the Ontario National Guard Armory. The Sheriffs Department will assign Guard service members to areas that have been evacuated for additional security. This will allow for the county and municipal law enforcement agencies to be used for active mandatory evacuations if that becomes necessary.

Fire activity on the Line Fire was moderated in the upper elevations in the overnight hours but remained active in the thermal belts making short, intense runs in the slopes and the lighter fuels which allowed for growth. More resources have arrived from throughout the state and fire fighting personnel has been increased from 500 to 1855 to battle the blaze which is now at 21203 acres and 3% containment. There are currently 36,328 structures that are still threatened
Big Bear News – Big Bear, CA – Sunday, September 8th UPDATE-Exercising an abundance of caution, the Bear Valley Unified School District is cancelling all classes at all school sites for tomorrow, Monday, September 9th due to Line Fire citing poor air quality and road closures. The Line Fire, which began on Thursday, September 5th at about 6pm on Baseline Road, is now at 17,459 acres in an area of high grass and chaparral with 0% containment. Due to steep slopes, dry fuels and changing wind directions, the fire has continued to grow to the north, east and southeast. Approximately 500 firefighters are on the scene including Forest Service personnel, Highland City Fire, San Bernardino City Fire and CalFire. Resources include ground crews, fixed wing and helicopters.

This transition has been made to ensure continued safety and support for all affected individuals.
Road closures include Highway 330 and part of Highway 18 from Santa’s Village to the Big Bear Dam. All Forest Service roads between Highway 18 and Highway 38 are also closed. Newly added Mountain Home Village, Angelus Oaks and Seven Oaks Communities.
