The Historical Museum will soon have another local treasure on their site when the museum opens for Memorial Day weekend, as the Big Bear Valley Historical Society prepares to move the Juniper Point cabin. The historic building was built on the North Shore’s Juniper Point in the 1920s, and has served as a post office and general store and, Historical Society President Gloria Meade tells us, local historian Tom Core used to pump gas there when a 14-year-old in the late ’20s. The cabin and surrounding land have since been purchased by Dr. Baumgartner, who has gifted the building and its contents—including an original 20’ or so log countertop—to the Historical Society. To make this move possible, volunteers will begin the process of emptying the cabin, starting Monday morning, and additional help from the community is welcomed. Once the move of the cabin is complete, Meade says, “We’re going to restore it and use it as a gift shop with all of our books. We are so thrilled.”
