UPDATE – Oak Hills, CA September 5, 2011, 8:00am – The Hill Fire is now at 100% containment. I-15 through Cajon Pass is currently open in both directions, but lanes may close periodically leading to some traffic congestion. The wildfire started at approximately 12:43pm Friday, September 3rd, in the Oak Hills area. The fire has burned 1158 acres. On Friday one firefighter was evacuated out for a medical emergency and a second firefighter suffered heat exhaustion. Mandatory evacuations were lifted at 2pm Saturday. Only residents will be allowed in the evacuation area and must show proof of residency. All shelters are now closed. Mop up of the interior burn areas will continue.The cause of the fire is under investigation.
PREVIOUS UPDATE – Oak Hills, CA September 4, 2011, 10:45am – The Hill Fire south of Oak Hills in the Cajon Pass is now 80% contained. Full containment is expected at about 6:00pm Monday. Fire behavior has subsided. Smoldering and several large dust devils over the fire have been observed. The most recent information available from the Forest Service indicates that the size of the fire is 1158 acres.
PREVIOUS UPDATE – Oak Hills, CA, September 3, 2011, 10:30pm – Fire activity subsided today and the fire is at 60% containment. Full containment is now expected on Monday, September 5 at 6:00 pm. The size of the fire has been revised to 1100 acres. Today there was some active burning on islands within the perimeter. On Friday one home was heavily damaged, 2 mobile homes were lost and 2 other structures were damaged.One firefighter was evacuated out for a medical emergency, and a second firefighter suffered heat exhaustion on Friday as well. The Cause of the fire is under investigation.
PREVIOUS UPDATE – Oak Hills, CA, September 3, 2011, 3:45pm – San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors Chair Josie Gonzales signed a proclamation this afternoon declaring the existence of a local emergency in response to the Hill Fire. The Board of Supervisors will conduct a special meeting at a yet-to-be-determined time during the next week to consider ratification of the proclamation.

Resources on the fire include 72 fire engines, 5 dozers, 5 water tenders, 5 helicopters, 14 airtankers (including the DC-10) and 22 handcrews. The Fire is in Cajon Pass south of Oak Hills. I-15 is currently open in both directions but lanes may close periodically due smoke or firefighting operations. Motorists are advised to avoid Cajon Pass as traffic may back up if closures occur again. Structures are threatened in the Oak Hills Area and 1 home has been heavily damaged, 2 mobile homes were lost and 2 other structures were damaged.
