Yucaipa, CA, April 17, 2014 – A local law enforcement officer who lost his life in the Christopher Dorner shootout last year was memorialized again yesterday. Detective Jeremiah MacKay now has a five-mile segment of Highway 38 dedicated to his memory.
The highway signs honoring him were unveiled in a somber ceremony at the Community Park Amphitheatre in Yucaipa.
Officials paying tribute to Detective MacKay included Sheriff John McMahon, 33rd District Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, dignitaries from the City of Yucaipa and the County of San Bernardino.
MacKay was fatally wounded on February 12, 2013 at the mountain cabin where Dorner made his last stand. He receives a posthumous award tonight at the Sheriff’s Exceptional Service Awards Ceremony, honoring employees for their dedication and selfless acts on behalf of San Bernardino County citizens.
