Big Bear, Ca, January 7, 2011, 1:00pm – The fate of Highway 330 hangs in the balance at Cal Trans surveys the damage caused by the recent rain storms that washed out portions of the road. According to Cal Trans District 8 Director Dr. Raymond Wolfe, in a worst case scenario, fixing HWY 330 could take two years, however Cal Trans is hopeful that it will be a one year project. Brent Tregaskis, of Big Bear Mountain Resorts, and Chair of the Chamber of Commerce Regional Traffic Advisory Committee, told KBHR that “we are working with Cal Trans as well as other government agencies to get the road open as quickly as feasible. Historically we know when the 330 closes our west end business are off 15% to 20 %.” Tregaskis also stated that there are still three routes into the Big Bear Valley. “ Highway 18 through Waterman Canyon is up and open in good shape, so we are encouraging people to come up that way.” Said Tregaskis. Motorists can take Highway 18 up through Waterman Canyon, Highway 18 the back grade through Lucerne Valley, and Highway 38 through the Redlands and Mentone areas to access the Big Bear Valley.
