Big Bear Lake, CA, November 12, 2012 – The “Daytime headlight section” signs recently installed on State Route 18 are being removed. A Caltrans spokesperson stated that although some mountain residents would like to see the signs remain in place, others have concerns about the cost of a citation and the impact on visitors who might not know about the use of headlights. The nine signs had been installed between Bear Valley Dam and Crestline Cutoff in an effort to reduce accidents on the winding two-lane highway. The fine for failing to comply with the headlight rule would have been as high as $350. Drivers are still reminded of the danger of crossing the double-yellow lines into oncoming traffic.
