Big Bear City, CA, November 6, 2013 – Bear Valley Community Nursery School, Co-op in the Pines will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a Harvest Dinner and Silent Auction, and the deadline to RSVP is November 13. The event is on November 16 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Northwoods Resort, at a cost of $30 per adult and $10 for the Children’s Buffet. To make reservations, call (909) 585-1230.
The evening will include bidding on the silent auction from 5:00 to 6:30, an activity room for kids, live entertainment, and a trip down memory lane with scrapbooks on display.
The school was founded in 1963 by a group of 12 families at the suggestion of Charlene Stalcup, who has also been teaching at the school for the past 43 years. The Harvest Dinner will honor her and raise funds for school operations.
At Co-op in the Pines, each family shares in the planning and operation of the school by performing a chairmanship job throughout the year, attending monthly parent meetings, participating in fundraising events, contributing time to the repair and maintenance of the facility and.helping the teacher in the classroom (where the ratio of adults to children is 1 to 5 or better).
The school is licensed and inspected by the State Department of Health and Social Services, and it’s affiliated with the regional and state Council of Parent Participation Nursery Schools and the National Association for the Education of Young Children. It is not sponsored by any church or governmental agency.
