Fawnskin, CA, July 25, 2013 1:00 p.m. – A hand crew and water dropping helicopters are in the mop-up phase of the Grays Incident near Butler Peak, west of Fawnskin.
The spot fire was originally reported around 10:oo this morning as being caused by a plane crash, but the cause was later corrected to be a likely lightning snag from recent storms. Air attack began quickly using Baker Pond and Grout Bay for dipping, followed quickly by boots on the ground.
The Grays Fire ultimately spread to a quarter-acre before the forward rate of spread was halted amid heavy fuels.
By 12:43, firefighters had a line around the blaze and had cut back to one helicopter doing bucket work. Mop-up efforts were expected to last until 4:00 p.m.
