Big Bear Lake, CA, June 6, 2012, 8:00am – Yesterday’s fire in Big Bear Valley is a reminder that we should always be prepared for wildfires. The Golf Fire, a small, slow moving vegetation fire that was reported in the Moonridge Area east of Villa Grove yesterday morning has been contained. John Miller of the US Forest Service told Big Bear News the small vegetation fire was east of Villa Grove down in a canyon and was less than 50 by 50 feet in size. Local fire agencies along with US Forest Service firefighters responded and quickly contained the fire. The fire was officially knocked down at 9:51am yesterday and a wet-line was created around it. No homes or structures were threatened, and no injures were reported. Residents can do their part in understanding fire danger by exercising extreme caution around dry, flammable vegetation. Clearing property of debris and maintaining landscaping are important first steps that homeowners should take.
