Big Bear, Ca, February 11, 2011, 9:30am – At approximately 3:30 pm on Thursday, February 10, 2011, the Big Bear City Fire Department received a report of a strong odor of natural gas in the area of Zaca Road and Brewer Way. Fire crews responded and upon arrival requested Southwest Gas Corporation representatives. The gas leak appeared to have migrated underground over a large area. The natural gas was shut-off to six residence and four people had to be evacuated from their homes for safety reasons. At 8:00pm on the 10th, Southwest Gas Corporation confirmed that the gas leak, a leak in a two inch line, in the 200 block of Zaca Road had been secured. Fire crews established a Command Post and remained on scene for an extended period of time. The Southwest Gas Corporation also set up an Emergency Operations Center in Victorville to assist with this incident. Southwest Gas assisted several of the evacuated residents find lodging for the night.
